USN Twin 5-inch DP Turrets

in 1/550 scale
A unique - and uniquely accurate - depiction of the classic USN
twin-5" dual-purpose (DP) turret, including option for elevating gun
barrels and everything you need to depict all hatches either open or
closed. Here is what is offered:
Castings are in transparent yellow resin, from which any native casting wafer remnants are quickly and easily removed.
The casting, including separate pieces for the gun house, base/cradle
and gun slide, additionally includes both open and closed hatch covers
such that excess features need only be removed to depict any and
all crew access- or machinery servicing hatches either open or closed.
On-line construction tips are available here.
Look closely at the above and following views, to note these features:
- Accurately shaped (and sized) gun house
- Ladder rungs accurately placed
- Crew access and machinery service hatch covers port and starboard
- Depiction of all hatch covers both open and closed
- Gun cradle/slide design allows for elevating guns, with locator stubs for gun barrels*
Surface details may be easier to read in these examples, which have been "purple-primed" and assembled:
This resin
does not need priming for most applications, however purple blocks the
(yellow) internal reflections of the castings most effectively;
therefore a thin coat of opaque purple is recommended - even before
removing the remnant casting wafer - for easier cleanup/preparation and
then assembly, as shown here.
Gun barrels are to be provided by the builder*; from
readily-available materials. Here, 0.0125"-diameter copper wire - from
ordinary home electrical cabling - has been used to good effect.
On-line construction tips are available here.
Your finished mounts should look (at least) as good as this:

Gun barrels
are to be provided by the builder*. Here, lengths of 0.0125"-diameter
copper wire (see "purple-primed" picture above) has been used to good
effect; simply unwind lengths from ordinary home electrical cabling and
roll between two smooth, flat surfaces until straight, then cut to
length and glue into the socket provided on the gun breach.
PRICING(Excluding ONLY ACTUAL shipping and any applicable taxes)
- 4-Pak (four complete turrets; sockets for gun barrels): $11.00 USD

** Special limited-time "Production Seconds" offer **
Developmental work on this product has resulted in a number of units
with minor defects: primarily gun carriages having pitting in the
corners or fuzing stands missing and guns with broken or partially-cast
gun barrels. All of these are still quite useable - in fact, all the
finished parts shown above (and below) were prepared from such
"production seconds"; requiring only a little extra correction/repair.
A number of these are available initially and for a limited time only are offered as a lower-cost alternative:
"Production Seconds" special offer (limited quantities available)
- 4-Pak (slightly flawed turrets; partial or flawed gun barrels): $8.50 USD
- 10 or more: each $2.05 USD
*Gun barrels to be provided by the builder; from readily-available materials. On-line construction tips are available here.
